Alternative Tubular Bandages May 2010 - May 2012 St.Clair Hunte Clinical Innovation View Contract

From January 2009 – January 2010 NHS CPC PCT stakeholders spent just over £1.1M on tubular bandages. This is a 1% growth on the previous year and such an increase in associated wound care expenditure is expected to continue and may swell significantly in line with demand from patients with chronic wounds such as leg ulcers.

The outline objective of NHS CPC is to counter this scenario with the provision of high quality wound care products that are a suitable alternative to the items already in use. The Clinifast ranges of tubular bandages are an excellent alternative product that will also provide an opportunity to generate cash releasing savings of £324k across the region; a 38% saving on Drug Tariff prices. Savings for each PCT do vary according to current usage; but range from £10k – £68k.
In addition to these savings NHS CPC has negotiated an additional 4% annual retrospective discount which will be held for 2 years.

Anti-embolism Stocking Standardisation with Rebate Apr 2011 - Mar 2014 St.Clair Hunte Clinical Innovation View Contract

Each year 25,000 people in the UK die from venous thromboembolism (VTE). This figure includes both medical and surgical patients. This is a larger number of deaths than are attributable to breast cancer, AIDS and road traffic accidents combined. It is 25 times the number of people who die as a result of MRSA infection.

The SaphenaMEDICAL® is an anti-embolism stocking range which addresses the challenges of poor compliance at the same time as providing a clinically acceptable, cost effective offering.

BIOQUELL High-tech Room Decontamination May 2010 - Mar 2012 St.Clair Hunte Clinical Innovation View Contract

As ever more stringent targets are set to improve the standard of care in the NHS, Trusts are under increasing pressure to improve patient safety and reduce patient length of stay by reducing healthcare associated infection (HCAI) rates. The ever more challenging financial environment demands that all patient safety measures are rigorously assessed for their ability to provide cost-benefit to Trusts and improve the patient experience.

Adopting BIOQUELL’s room sterilisation technology to augment your terminal cleaning protocols will place your hospital at the cutting edge of infection control. The technology has been shown to reduce infection rates1 and has demonstrated cost-benefit2 (appendices A and B), with a return on investment of over 300%. Capital purchase, rental and service options are available.

Blood Glucose Management Systems Apr 2010 - Apr 2012 St.Clair Hunte Clinical Innovation View Contract

There are over 220,000 people with diabetes registered across Yorkshire and the Humber. In the next 10 years this is projected to rise by 60%. The total diabetic spend in 2007-08 on diabetic services was £100m with a very steep rise projected as a result of increased prevalence.

The SHA has identified Diabetes as “an area of concern” as projected rises in the next 3 years and as a chronic and progressive disease it has an impact on almost every aspect of life. High numbers of emergency and other acute patient episodes are currently related to diabetes. Healthy Ambitions pledges to “halve the number of Preventable admissions from diabetes” (NHS Yorkshire and the Humber 2009).
